Edit text directly in QuarkXPress layouts with a browser

The XTension ex WebEdit enables the user to edit text directly in QuarkXPress layouts in a browser window without having QuarkXPress installed.

A possible working scenario is to transfer text to extern editorials for translation in other languages.  Because there is a direct connection to the QuarkXPress document it is possible to have text reflowed immediately.

The layouts are stored on a QuarkXPress server. The elements of the layouts like text and pictures will be managed by the Quark server as assets. The assets will be part of a database like QuarkContentManager (QCM) or file based in a folder structure. It is possible to connect to other databases.
A connection to the QuarkXPress server will be established via internet, to enable the user to open own QuarkXPress documents (personally assigned) for editing text and saving it back to the QuarkXPress server.

ex WebEdit is a browser application and works plattform independent. With different "Skins" of the user interface it can be configured for customer needs (CI-Conzepts).

Function description:

After login the user gets a compendium of his tasks in the browser window. Thumbnails of the assigned layouts are shown. With a click on the thumbnail or on the name of a QuarkXPress document the layout will be checked out. With the option "get asset", the user can download the document as a  PDF document, JPEG picture, PostScript file or as a QuarkXPress document and save it on the local computer. With the option "edit asset" the document can be edited.

The option"edit asset" opens the preview of the page. The user can change between single- and double pages or between 25% and 600%.

Every editable box can be visible.
By clicking in the box the content will be shown in the browser and can be edited.

The content of each box (each text chain) will be shown in the upper edit field. In the lower part of the edit field new text or translation will be shown. It is possible to use automatic translation tools.

At the push of a button text can be exported to a MS-Word file, which can be edited/translated offline and after finishing imported back. This may be useful in case of slow or insecure internet connections.

The complete QuarkXPress document can be configured for download in different formats - depending on the configuration:
