Markzware was founded in 1989 by Patrick Marchese and Ron Crandall.
Patrick Marchese had a background in the printing business and was a graphic arts electronic medium manager before launching his company. He started small, refining and honing his expertise by creating XTensions that were free.
In 1993, Markzware began marketing XState, a document management XTension, which among other features, remembers the last position of documents and groups documents into projects, tracking the time spent on each project.
Later that year the company introduced MarkzTools, which allows recovery of corrupt documents in programs such as QuarkXPress, as well as the XTension PM2Q which allows Adobe PageMaker documents to be converted in QuarkXPress documents. Those XTensions became so popular that Markzware bundled them together to form MarkzTools Plus, a combination of MarkzTools and PM2Q.
In 1995 Markzware released FlightCheck, which has won numerous awards worldwide. FlightCheck provides a detailed checklist for production personnel, printers and service bureaus covering over 150 potential printing problems including details on XTensions, fonts and images - to ensure the digital document is properly prepared, available for collection and ready for output.
