business a.m.

CoDesCo IT Consulting Teams with Bonnier AB to realize "business a.m." The first Scottish Newspaper in over 100 years.

Edinburgh, 20. September 2000. The Swedish media company Bonnier AB launched a new daily business newspaper in Scotland after more than 100 years, appearing 5 times a week: The financial paper "business a.m."

To ensure the launch date of this newspaper the Swedish company trusted CoDesCo IT Consulting an experienced systems integrator based in Oststeinbek near Hamburg, Germany. After a short planning phase  CoDesCo IT Consulting specialists had the system up and running and business a.m. employees trained within eight weeks. In late july they started in Edinburgh in empty rooms and on September 20th the big day had come. Business a.m. was launched together with its online site at www.businessam.co.ukbusiness a.m. Website link

CoDesCo IT Consulting had once agin leveraged it's experience and  competence in realising sophisticated projects with know-how and team spirit within a very limited time period.

CoDesCo IT Consulting has created a fully integrated production system for “business a.m.” that allows last minute changes due to it's highly efficient combination of customised standard tools for  the publishing industry with seamlessly integrated interfaces, thus guarranteeing highest degree of actuality.

The core component of this production process is the Quark Publishing System™ (QPS™) from the American software company Modulo Systems Corp. A workgroup based DTP-editing and production system, that combines QuarkXPress™ with numerous applications for text-editing, protocolling, document administration and workflow status control. So QPS enables editors, writers and layouters to work in their group at the same time

Quark Digital Media System™ (Quark DMS™) specially developed by Quark Inc. for the management of digital assets and content functions as the asset management database for pages, pictures, ads, market data and information retrieval. It's the backbone for all systems.

Content produced in QPS and Quark DMS is transmitted automatically and bidirectionally as XML data to "Vignette Storyserver" the online-publishing system used by "Business a.m."

The flow of incoming data supplied by various news agencies is administered with ex NotesWire. Received text data is “if necessary” converted and sent to a Lotus Notes® database on a Lotus Domino server, where the content is stored for a certain time,  which can be freely defined by the system administrator. While in the database the content can directly be accessed for individual user requests from the current production application, where the user can setup ticker queries as well

The extensive workflow for incoming pictures is handled by the live image management production system MediaGrid of the Atlanta based Software Construction Company (SCC). Here we also implemented an automatic  interface to the  Quark DMS.archive
